BMW has revealed more information on the new Z4 roadster, confirming it will be fitted with one of three petrol engines.
Customers will be able to choose from the 20i, 30i and M40i powertrains and each unit will be paired to an eight-speed Steptronic Sport transmission.
The 20i four-cylinder produces 194bhp and 320Nm for a 0-60mph time of 6.4 seconds and a top speed of 149mph, while the 30i option has 255bhp and 400Nm of torque, meaning a 0-60mph time of 5.2 seconds and a top speed of 155mph.
The top-spec twin-turbocharged, six-cylinder M40i engine is the fastest to 60mph – 4.4 seconds – but has the same limited top speed as the four-cylinder 30i. The M Performance model comes with a specially-engineered transmission for faster shifts and to make use of the 335bhp and 500Nm of torque.
BMW also makes sporty alterations to the M40i to enhance its performance, such as sports suspension, M Sport brakes and an M Sport differential – as well as lowering the ride height by 10mm.
Design-wise, BMW offers nine different exterior colour options – eight metallic and one solid – and two roof colours for the electric soft-top. It can be opened or closed in 10 seconds and at speeds up to 31mph.

Each model comes with LED headlights, with the option to fit Adaptive LED headlights that come with the Matrix function to prevent dazzling other drivers.
Inside, customers will be able to select one of four leather options for the seats – which are all heated as standard – and use the 281-litre boot, which isn’t encroached upon by the folding roof.
BMW offers a raft of options, including active cruise control, parking assistant, a head-up display, improved surround sound speakers and additional comfort features.
Pricing for the Z4 is to be announced on October 2, with the model going on sale two days later. Deliveries begin in March 2019.
